CASE STUDY: THE HABERDASHERS’ ASKE’S BOYS’ SCHOOL

THE SUNDAY TIMES INDEPENDENT SCHOOL OF THE YEAR 2017

DEPUTY HEADMASTER MR J. MAGUIRE SAYS THAT THEY ARE TEACHING THE FUTURE GENERATION AT THE HABERDASHERS’ ASKE’S BOYS’ SCHOOL.

The Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School (Habs) is an independent day school offering a positive and challenging learning environment for creative and inquisitive pupils. At Habs, we aim to provide a dynamic experience for boys aged 5 to 18.

Located in 120-acres of leafy countryside, the Habs campus is an idyllic landscape in which to learn. Becoming a member of the Haberdashers’ family is very important to the School. We see your child’s experience as a journey and whether they join at 5+, 7+, 11+, 13+, they are always part of the ever-growing Habs community.

Habs has a strong multicultural community at its core. Students make friends from the most extraordinary range of backgrounds and cultures, valuing and celebrating many faiths and traditions represented at the school.

We are committed to providing high-quality pastoral care for all our boys. With student welfare at the heart of everything we do, our team of expert and dedicated pastoral staff go the extra mile to ensure boys are confident and happy throughout their time here. The house system provides boys with a support structure that also teaches them the merits of cooperation and community.

Whether academic, athletic, quirky or quiet, Haberdashers’ knows how to bring the best out of its boys. The curriculum is designed to keep boys stimulated and eager at every stage of their development. “We specialise in teaching boys, and we are exceptionally good at it,” says the Headmaster, proven by Habs winning The Sunday Times Independent School of the Year award for 2017; a prestigious accolade of which we are extremely proud.

2017 was another exceptional year for the School with regards to results. Both at A-level and GCSEs Habs has a 100 per cent pass rate. At A-level an outstanding 46 per cent of boys achieved the A* grade and 85 per cent of students achieved between A*-A. GCSE results were equally impressive with 70 per cent earning the A* grade and over 90 per cent gaining A*-A grades.

Academic achievement is only part of the experience at Habs. The Independent Schools Inspectorate reported our “curriculum is supported and complemented by an exceptional range of rich and vibrant co-curricular activities.” Those who have a passion for music can join one of the multiple bands and orchestras, and for those who enjoy performing arts there are various productions throughout the year. Habs offers sports for boys of all abilities and boasts county level players in over 10 different sports.

The Medburn Centre is our state-of-the-art sports and fitness complex equipped with a 25-metre, eight-lane swimming pool, gym, squash courts, climbing facilities, café and much more.

The latest development phase completed in July 2018 was the Preparatory School, which has undergone a complete renovation including a new two-storey extension, Library, ICT Suite, Art and DT studios and much more. “We are creating a Prep School for the next generation,” states the Head of the Preparatory School.

The School provides a unique coach service with over 130 stops, spanning a 30-mile radius and offers provisions for pupils staying for after-school activities. Bolstered by our extensive co-curricular programme, the School encourages learning beyond the academic framework as it prepares boys for university and beyond.
