OVER THE PAST decade or so The Langham London has consistently played host to London’s diplomatic community. From grand national day celebrations and the Diplomat of the Year Awards Ceremony (held by this very magazine) in the Ballroom, to discrete VIP dinners behind the closed doors of Postillion, the private room at their restaurant Roux at The Landau, this institution also has the staff with the expertise and experience to back this up.

Originally the hotel’s dining room, the Grand Ballroom has been the cornerstone of The Langham since it first opened in 1865 as Europe’s first ‘Grand Hotel.’ It soon established itself as a legendary venue for lavish celebrations when it was tradition to lay a bridal red carpet across Langham Place from All Souls’ Church to the hotel’s doorstep. Today, its refreshed interiors reflect the hotel’s Victorian heritage. As part of the recently completed £80 million refurbishment of the hotel, the listed Grand Ballroom has been lovingly restored with subtle touches, enhancing the delicate period details that echo its past. Authentic elements have been preserved, from the dramatic renaissance pillars to the sparkling chandeliers and fine hand-painted decorative detailing.

The south facing Courtyard Garden also forms a unique outdoor reception venue for up to 250 guests for use in conjunction with the hotel’s historic Grand Ballroom. As one of the oldest private garden sites in the West End, dating back to the mid-eighteenth century, this courtyard garden has been specifically designed to give the impression of an English rose garden, whilst also being a flexible venue for special events. Accessed directly from the Grand Ballroom, elegant railings, moveable planters and benches can create a series of intimate spaces within the garden.

The hotel’s events offering, Chez Roux, is in partnership with culinary icon Michel Roux Jr. As the only venue to work with a double Michelin-starred chef across all of its events menus, cuisine has the hallmarks of classic French cooking, but interpreted with a lighter, modern touch.
