MALAYSIA’S VIBRANT CULTURE COMES TO LIFE AT THE MALAYSIA MERDEKA CARNIVAL
The Malaysia Merdeka Carnival is taking place on 26 August 2023, at the prestigious Tun Abdul Razak Research Centre, Brickendonbury, Hertfordshire. Hosted by the High Commission of Malaysia to the UK, the carnival provides a remarkable opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage and inspire a deeper appreciation of its beauty and diversity.
This annual event, initiated almost 20 years ago, receives thousands of visitors each year. The 2023 event aims to be bigger and better, as it coincides to celebrate Malaysia’s 66th Independence Day, which takes place on 31st August.
Visitors will be transported into the enchanting world of Malaysia in the beautiful green grounds, and can indulge in authentic Malaysian cuisine, from refreshing cendol – a dessert of shaved ice served with palm sugar syrup, coconut milk and rice flour jelly – to freshly sizzled satay skewers with peanut sauce.
This year’s line-up includes classical dance performances, artful silat (an ancient form of martial art), and live bands. There are also traditional sporting activities like Tarik Tali (Tug of War) and an array of programmes for children including colouring contests and mini sports competitions. Lucky draws will offer winners exciting prizes, including hotel stays, return airline tickets to Malaysia, electronic items, and much more.
The event is open to all, with no entrance fee, from 10.00am to 5.00pm. For more information, including the event schedule and updates, please follow the High Commission of Malaysia’s digital platforms.
