The Bishop of Ukraine Visits St George’s Ascot

The teachers and students of St George’s Ascot were honoured to welcome Reverend Kenneth Nowakowski, Eparchial Bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of the Holy Family of London, to the school back in March. His visit came at the suggestion of Professor Beravale, and upon invitation from Ms Liz Hewer, Head of St George’s Ascot, and offered the school community a powerful and moving insight into the war and the impact it continues to have on the Ukrainian people.
Bishop Nowakowski began his visit with a moment of reflection, leading a short but poignant prayer for those affected by the conflict. He then shared his experiences, offering a heartfelt and thought-provoking perspective on the resilience of the Ukrainian people and the crucial role of faith in times of crisis. In his address, Bishop Kenneth reflected on the core values promoted by St George’s School – Confidence, Capability, and Connectedness – he noted these were vital qualities during times of conflict. It was an opportunity for pupils and staff to hear first-hand about the realities of war and its wider implications.
Bishop Nowakowsi concluded by urging everyone to be peacemakers in their own lives and communities. Following his address, pupils and staff participated in a Q&A session, where they engaged in meaningful discussions with the Bishop. Attendees gained a deeper understanding of the challenges facing Ukraine today, especially the impacts on women and children, as well as the broader implications for Europe and the world.
St George’s Ascot is a leading independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11 to 18, located in the heart of Berkshire, just 25 miles from London and within easy reach of Heathrow Airport.
