INDIAN INSPIRATION: PRIVATE ROOMS
Diplomat identifies the ideal private rooms and event spaces for the festive season and beyond
MW Eat’s Veeraswamy restaurant recently hit the headlines as it was awarded its first Michelin star. The UK’s oldest Indian restaurant, Veeraswamy remains a legendary culinary landmark, often playing host to royalty and diplomatic patrons.
Established in 1926 by the grandson of an English general and an Indian princess, Veeraswamy soon became a fashionable rendezvous amongst the rich and famous, who were drawn not only to its remarkable cuisine but also to its Raj inspired opulent interiors. Today, it still exudes the same extraordinary glamour and rich essence of its legendary past. Opulent and sumptuous interiors play host to some of London’s best Indian food.
Veeraswamy’s Mughal inspired private dining room can comfortably seat up to 22, or 50 can be accommodated for reception-style functions. Décor is romantic and playful: baccarat chandeliers, rich Moghul-style carpets and elegant silk curtains create an atmosphere of romance and celebration.
Sister restaurant Chutney Mary is based on St James’s Street, and similarly reinvented the concept of modern Indian cuisine when it was established in 1990. Chutney Mary offers two sensational private dining rooms, with an extensive menu of options to cater for private celebrations, discreet lunches and dinners or events of all kinds. Both rooms are elegant and self-contained, with a wash of modern India.
The Club Room can seat from 18 to 32 guests for a sit down meal, or 60 for a cocktail reception. The room has space for pre-meal drinks. The Crystal Room can seat 10 to 16 guests for a sit down meal.
Rooms in both venues are ideal for a whole gamut of purposes – such as launches, presentations, press meetings and brainstorming sessions. They all have personalised service, exciting menus and a fabulous selection of compatible wines and exotic cocktails. Mostly importantly, service is discreet, warm and professional.
