MALAYSIA’S 66TH INDEPENDENCE DAY UNITY EXPEDITION: A JOURNEY FROM LONDON TO KUALA LUMPUR
This week, six passionate Malaysian motorcyclists embarked on an incredible adventure, travelling overland through 66 cities in 16 countries to reach Malaysia in 66 days. The final destination is Kuala Lumpur, which will coincide with Malaysia’s 66th Independence Day celebration in August.
The group – Quantum Metal 66th Independence Day Unity Expedition (QMEPWK66), began their journey from London on 20 June after a flag-raising event in front of Malaysia High Commission in London by High Commissioner Dato’ Zakri Jaafar.
This expedition pays tribute to the historic journey undertaken by Malaysia’s first Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, who brought the Malayan Declaration of Independence from London to Kuala Lumpur in 1957. It will create history as the first expedition from London to Kuala Lumpur in honour of Malaysia’s 66th Independence Day. Their first destination in the 22,000km trip is Paris, France.
Also present at the send-off were Quantum Metal Sdn Bhd founder Datuk Lim Khong Soon; representative to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamdi, Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh; and Tourism Malaysia director in London Noran Ujang.
“It is an honour for me to officiate the flag-off this morning. I hope the expedition will successfully reach Putrajaya to celebrate our 66th Independence Day parade,” said High Commissioner Dato’ Zakri.
“The flag-off this morning is a significant moment for us especially after facing multiple bureaucratic challenges upon arrival. We are now even more determined to endure the next 66 days towards heading back to our homeland in view of realizing the independence dream,” said Arep Kulal, the expedition’s team leader.
Quantum Metal Ekspedisi Perpaduan Watikah Kemerdekaan 66, London – Kuala Lumpur 2023 is organised by Global Bike Explorer Sdn Bhd with Quantum Metal Sdn Bhd being the main sponsor and GB13, KMF Network, Bullion Success Group and Tourism Malaysia as co-sponsors.
