MOTORING: ALL ELECTRIC. ALL BMW.

INTRODUCING THE NEW BMW IX3.

Sustainability has long been a core mantra of the BMW Group, as they continue to diversify their existing offering of 12 all-electric, plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid technology models, to 25 electric power trains by 2023, with half to be fully electric.

The introduction this year of the new BMW i4, iX3 and iX means BMW are well on their way, and will see this already impressive electrified line up broaden to span 15 vehicles.

In this article, we’re shining the spotlight on the new BMW iX3, an evolutionary all-electric SUV, taking the future of BMW electric mobility a step further.

Here you can explore the iX3 in detail covering the aesthetic highlights, product specifications and the performance credentials of this landmark model. Discover the  electric edge.

The iX3 is the trailblazer for the fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology, mastering the balance between the innovations of the electric motor and high-voltage battery, whilst maintaining a collaborative approach to reducing CO₂ emissions.

For example, the electric motor now no longer requires the use of rare earth elements and focuses more on the recycling and reusable materials for its production. This new approach has had no effect on performance, with the iX3 providing an all-electric range of around 282 miles*.

What’s more with two models to choose from, each with their own high level of standard specification, the iX3 grabs attention with unique styling and an innovative interior. The exterior styling does not differ between the iX3 Premier Edition and the Premier Edition Pro; the main differences are within the comfort and practicality of the editions alongside the advanced technological offering. More to follow on this shortly.

“IT LANDS IN THAT CROSSOVER SWEET SPOT: A COMPACT SUV, CAPABLE OF SEATING THE WHOLE FAMILY, BUT STILL PRACTICAL ENOUGH FOR URBAN DRIVING.” Chris Hall, Pocket-lint

THE ULTIMATE DRIVE

Like all new BMW models, innovation starts from the ground up, and in the iX3 this includes the new aerodynamic alloy wheel design first debuted on the concept model and now exclusively available on all iX3 Premier Editions as standard with the striking Jet Black geometric star design. The 20” alloys boast weight reduction of around 15 per cent against the conventional alloy wheel and increased efficiency of up to 30 per cent due to the reduced drag that is achieved with the constant airflow. All these benefits packaged together delivers enhanced performance and an extended range of up to six miles.

How does it feel to drive? Well, the iX3 delivers hallmark agility thanks to a low weight battery, even weight distribution and ARB technology to provide an agile and dynamic handling all-electric vehicle.

STYLING & CONNECTIVITY

The harmony between the aesthetic styling and the modern exclusivity of the interior continues with a focus on passenger comfort and optimised ergonomics for ease of use, whilst combining subtle iX3 design features that reinforce the progressive nature of this model. All iX3 models are equipped with the latest BMW Live Cockpit Professional as standard. The pronounced 10.25” Central Information Display (CID) is seamlessly complimented by the 12.3” Digital Driver Cockpit and powered by the latest Operating System 7.0.

“IT HAS A FAB INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM AND A SMART INTERIOR, SO IT’S A FINE BUY IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A BIG SUV THAT RUNS SOLEY ON ELECTRICITY.”  What Car?

Thanks to the digital services available as part of Connected Charging, you can also ensure that you are always getting the best out of the electric range of the new iX3. As soon as you start planning your trip, the system points you to the nearest public charging stations on your route and informs you in advance of their availability and the charging currents offered. To get the most out of the charging time, you will also be shown nearby points of interest, such as a café or restaurant.

CHARGING.

BMW understands that when it comes to electric cars, there are a lot of questions around charging. However encouragingly, what BMW have found is that soon after purchasing, owners tend to find that charging becomes more of an intuitive routine than a specific operation, and options such as Connected Drive provide easy and convenient charging solutions. BMW are confident that you can always rely on your new iX3 to get you where you need to be in time. This is great, but what other charging options are available?

Using the cables provided, you can charge the high voltage battery via a conventional 3-pin plug socket, or at any one of the extensive UK network of public charging stations. However, for regular fast charging BMW recommends that a dedicated private charging station (Wallbox) be installed. This ensures a faster and more convenient home charging experience. Their official installation partner, bp pulse, guarantee a reliable solution from a single source, including consultation, delivery, installation and start-up.

ChargeNow is a service from BMW which, in partnership with bp pulse, enables customers in the UK to access the largest network of public charging points nationwide with a single card – the BMW ChargeNow charging card. Charging points are displayed directly in the navigation system, making it especially quick and easy to find and use public charging points. Electric made simple, easy and enjoyable!
