But on occasion, you want the reassurance of something a little more thorough than your regular eye test on the high street. After 20 years of working at and managing various prestigious opticians in the Harley Street area, Roger Pope opened his own practice on New Cavendish Street in 1987. It’s not difficult to see why. Today, Roger Pope and Partners have a dedicated team of five dispensing opticians and three highly experienced optometrists. Their consulting rooms beneath the shop incorporate the very latest technology, and benefit from an on-site optical lab.

Lasting a full hour, my thorough eye examination by impressive optometrist Dr Elaine Anderson began with various questions regarding any sight concerns I had. The extensive examination procedures that followed included these steps:

• Zeiss Clarus 500 ultra-widefield true colour retinal imaging

• Digital scanning with a 3D ocular coherence tomography (OCT) camera

• Field of vision tests with a Zeiss Field Analyser

• Eye analysis with the Zeiss iProfiler

• Microscopic examination with a slit lamp

• Subjective refraction

• Tonometer intraocular pressure checks using the I Care Tonometer

Each of the steps only lasted a minute or two, and Dr Anderson assured me that these were the procedures required for a clean bill of optical health. The practice has invested in the latest diagnostic equipment to ensure that your eye test is the most thorough and accurate available anywhere. Thankfully, she didn’t find any major issues and could confirm that my prescription was indeed appropriate for my eyesight.
